Whether sophisticated and androgynous or soft and gamine, the classic pixie haircut can be adapted and styled depending on preference, and that's all thanks to its choppy texture. One person who perfectly demonstrates that? Why Zendaya, of course, who recently hard-launched her own version of the super short cut. Snip snip!
Over on Instagram, Swiss sportswear brand On shared that Zendaya is the face of their new campaign. For the space-themed shoot, the actor underwent a major hair transformation, ditching her long locks for a head-hugging cut, and it's one best known as the 'textured pixie'.
As Z shows with the pictures below, her cut is defined by short layers which are designed to create movement and dimension. Think: uneven and jagged strands for a cool, edgy look.
The texture around the crown of this hairstyle, paired with long, wispy sideburns, makes for an otherworldly, mod vibe. That, and the elf ears... Is anyone else getting major Star Trek flashbacks?
Benefits of a textured pixie
Now, while Zendaya's hairstyle for this shoot may have been achieved via a wig (you never know!), the look itself is enough to convince anyone to cut their hair. That said, other than making like the gorgeous Zendaya herself (I mean, who wouldn't want an It girl-approved hairstyle?), the choppy cut does have many benefits.
- Versatile styling: Choppy pixies are versatile and can be styled in various ways, from sleek and straight to messy and textured. A slim straightener is this style's BFF.
- Low maintenance: IMO, the main selling point of a pixie cut is how low-maintenance and easy to style it can be. The layers mean that minimal styling is needed as they add natural volume and texture, and the length requires nothing but a tousled brush – if that!
- Flattering: A pixie cut can accentuate facial features and frame the face in a flattering way, particularly when styled with longer strands at the sides and front.
So, if you've been contemplating getting a pixie haircut, let this be your sign! Zendaya, we're coming for your look...
